Cochin International Airport, which is the fourth largest international airport in terms of passenger traffic in the country, expects to launch its MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) facility by June, a senior official of the aviation services Cochin International said .

"The work of the ease of Rs 100 crore MRO will be over by June and the installation can then be placed in service after obtaining the requisite approvals from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)," Cochin International Aviation Services CEO, Mr. Jose Thomas, told PTI today.

The airport, which is the first new international airport in partnership (PPP) model public-private, had floated his arm MRO - Cochin International Aviation Services - as a wholly owned subsidiary in 2005 and is registered under the Companies Act. It would be one of the most successful projects in the area of ​​national aviation infrastructure.

The work to launch the facility began a year later on the outskirts of the airport that handles more than 3 million passengers per year.

Although the installation of MRO services is underway, the company is already running a general aviation academy (Academy of Cochin International Airport) to provide training for pilots, cabin crew, engineers and technicians, Mr. Thomas said. The academy is being run in association with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

The type of services that the MRO facility would offer to come, he said that the installation of the cell and provides basic repair such as control of fuselages and breaks, or what is called in jargon of aviation MRO & C controls. As to whether it would offer D-checks, which involves the revision of the engine, he said the current plan, he does not understand.
