Avionics Technician job description

Aircraft maintenance engineers (avionics) maintain, repair, overhaul, modify and test the electrical, electronic, instrumentation and radio systems and components of aircraft. They may carry out their work on these systems and components on the aircraft itself or in a workshop environment after they have been removed from the aircraft. These systems and components include autopilot and integrated flight systems, radar and communication systems, generator and power-distribution systems, protection systems and environment control systems.

As an aircraft maintenance engineer (avionics) you might work for domestic or international airlines, aerospace companies, general aviation companies or the Australian Defence Force. In fact you could work anywhere in the world!

This occupation requires high levels of concentration and responsibility as public safety depends upon it. Aircraft maintenance engineering (avionics) could suit someone who enjoys computers, engineering, electronics and technology, building and repairing things, and problem solving. If this sounds like you and if you like industrial arts subjects and computer studies (and perhaps maths and physics as well) then aircraft maintenance engineering (avionics) might be for you.
