Don’t do Aircraft Maintenance Engg course

You may wish to become an aircraft mechanic; well that’s a good decision. But don’t take this Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) course to be the path towards the aviation industry as a mechanic. Instead you can take plenty of other graduation engineering courses which can ultimately lead you to this field of aviation.

If you read these posts you will understand why I said this. Yes, AME course is not considered as degree/diploma, so why you need to waste your three years? In other way you can become an AME, by taking some engineering graduation and having aviation experience. For example, if I took Bsc. Aircraft Maintenance Science (AMS) as my subject after higher secondary studies, I may also have eligibility to write the DGCA license exam under GET scheme. So that I will have two in one, that’s a graduation plus chances to write the DGCA papers thereby I can become an aircraft mechanic. I can go for higher studies too if I wish at the same time. Getting aircraft maintenance jobs in aviation industry also will be easy for me since I am a graduate. 

But in the case of AME course, you won’t get these features. You can only write the DGCA papers after training, and solely depend on that, you will get aircraft maintenance job and aviation training. It’s also difficult to get the OJT until unless you don’t have the DGCA papers (1, 2). You can’t go for higher studies too if you wish, since the course is not considered as graduation. This is the current situation of AME course. May be in future, we can hope this course will come under graduation. But till then the wise idea to be an aircraft mechanic is take some engineering courses graduation (BE/Bsc) in Aeronautical, AMS, Mechanical, Electrical, or Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical etc and study under GET scheme.
